Ford originally planned to dominate Le Mans with their S550 Mustang. However, at the launch of the Mustang GTD, CEO Jim Farley revealed to Top Gear that the V6-powered GT was almost scrapped. Farley explained that Ford initially aimed to sell the Mustang globally in left- and right-hand drive, with the hopes of celebrating the 50th anniversary of their Le Mans victory. Ford approached Multimatic and IMSA to help make their dream a reality.
Ford’s going all out to dominate Le Mans with their mighty Mustang! They’ve teamed up with the ace engineers at Multimatic to make it happen.
Farley revealed that Larry Holt and his team were a no-brainer for Ford, and they’ve been busy chatting with IMSA to get the Mustang race-ready.
GT40, meet GT: the happy mistake that led to Ford’s winning streak at Le Mans. The road car sold like hotcakes, but did you know it was raced before production? No big deal, just a feat in itself,” exclaimed Farley. In 2016, 50 years after Ford beat Ferrari with the iconic GT40, the new GT triumphed once again and clinched the top spot in the LM GTE-Pro class at Le Mans.
Ford decided to shake things up in the racing world by resurrecting the GT nameplate. Their simulations showed that relying solely on the Mustang silhouette would leave them too vulnerable to outside regulations. “Our original plan was to win Le Mans with the Mustang, but we knew we had to take a different route,” said Ford’s CEO. The new design of the Ford GT promises to bring home some wins for the iconic American company.
Ford has upgraded their GT car to pack an even bigger punch with 660 horsepower! The amazing part is that the engine uses parts from their F-150 truck. But don’t be fooled, the GT is anything but a truck. With custom upgrades like new turbochargers, camshafts, and an aluminum intake manifold, the GT is now more powerful than ever before.
Now, Ford is taking their iconic Mustang muscle car to the Le Mans race with their new Mustang GTD. This car may look like a muscle car, but it’s really a supercar. It has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine and pumps out around 800 horsepower! This incredible power is controlled by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, sending the power to the wheels for an unforgettable ride.
